"Our goal is to provide the best coaching for motivated hockey players who want to take his/her game to the next level. We aim to support his/her escalation to the next level in a positive, supportive yet competitive and intense environment."

We maintain a very low student to coach ratio (unless noted). All camps include 3 hours of on-ice (unless noted). We will emphasize Power Skating, shooting in-stride, play making in traffic, and fine tuning existing skills. The first hour of on-ice will be dedicated to Power Skating, drills will be done with & without pucks at full speed. During our office portion of camp, students will use dry land training for conditioning, plyometrics to increase on-ice explosiveness and quickness. Video sessions will help break down positioning and our shooting range will improve a players shot. All camps will include body contact and proper checking techniques for 12 & older groups. Staff will help with tying skates and equipment for younger players.

POWER SKATING: The first hour of camp will teach the proper hockey stride. This hour will have the progressive high tempo over speed and agility drills designed from Team USA. The week will progress from simple edge control and balance at the beginning of the week to over speed and explosive stride by the end of the week. Emphasis will be placed on improving and developing edges, agility, balance, foot speed, cross-overs (forward and backward), tight turns, and explosive starts. Drills will include variations with and without pucks.

CHECKING and BODY CONTACT: This skill will be introduced to all students regardless of age. Each student will learn all the necessary fundamentals of how to use the their body positioning with and without the puck to better their advantage. Also, the 11 and older group will be taught the proper techniques of giving and receiving a check.

PUCK HANDLING and PASSING: Students will learn the secrets to controlling the puck in traffic and skating at full speed carrying the puck with their HEAD UP! Carrying the puck in the proper positioning in order to see the entire ice and make a pass. Making short tape to tape passes is a necessary skill which goes untaught in many camps will be stressed.

AGE & GENDER: N.A.H.S. is open to both male and females ages 7 and up. All players grouped according to age and ability

NUTRITION and OFF ICE TRAINING: Students will have discussions about their nutritional choices. The true sign of a serious athlete is his/her commitment to their health. Improper eating habits especially on game day can effect any players game. All serious programs stress the need for off ice training. Everything from proper stretching to drills to better a students shooting or foot speed will be emphasized.

EQUIPMENT: Emphasis will be placed on explaining how to choose the correct equipment for your game. No brand name is so important it is worth sacrificing a potential avenue to bettering your game. In some cases the wrong equipment can even increase your potential for injury. In others it may only sell some of your skills short.

PERFORMANCE AND EVALUATION REPORTS: Students will receive a report cart at the end of the camp with a complete breakdown of their strengths and weaknesses. This summarizes any areas that may need improvement (Exceptions: Tune-Up Camps)

PRIZES AND AWARDS: Awards will be given out for outstanding camper at the conclusion of the week.

GLENN ANDERSON: Glenn Anderson signs autographs during the final day of camp cook out. Make sure you bring your favorite Oilers, Maple Leafs, Blues, or Rangers souvenir for Glenn to sign. What a special summer it will be this year as Glenn prepares for the honor of a lifetime, his induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame! This year bring your HHOF merchandise to be autographed!!

SPECIAL GUEST APPEARANCES: Guest appearances by NHL pros in certain locations.

FAQ's

The schedule says camp begins at 10:00 in the morning, what time should we arrive at the rink?

When does camp end?

All campers should arrive at the rink with at least enough time to get dressed and be ready to go on at the schedule start time.

If some of the younger campers need help to tie thier skates our counselors will do thier best to get it done. If necessary arrive a few minutes earlier so the counselors are not overloaded at the last minute.

We advise you to be at the rink when camp is scheduled to end. Please do not let your child wait unnecessarily.

How do I make sure my child is grouped with his / her friends?

When you first sign up and pay for camp please give us as much information as possible. We always do our best to accommodate our customers but sometimes age limitations or playing ability limit our ability to help due to the effect it would have on the overall group. Please take a moment to call us before registering if you have any concerns. We want to make sure your player's camp experience is the most fulfilling it can be.

When you check in on the first day of camp feel free to notify one of the N.A.H.S. consolers and they will do their best to make sure your player is in the group with his friends.

If the camp has a scrimmage on the final day (i.e. Glenn Anderson Stanley Cup Week) teams are drafted by the counselors in the hope that teams will be fair. Every attempt will be made to keep friends together but in some cases that may not be possible.

Can I only attend a few days of camp? Will you pro-rate the camp prices?

We strongly recommend that your player attends the entire week session. The camps are designed to build upon each day's curriculum.

EXCEPTIONS: Due to the start date of some school districts the pre-season tune-up camps at Terry Conners Rink over the week of August 25th through 29th can be pro-rated upon request but only upon registration. No refunds will be given for camps paid in full.

My Child is going into to be a pee wee in the fall do you teach them checking?

All camps 11 and older will review body contact and most importantly how to receive a hit properly.

Does N.A.H.S. provide lunch or snacks during the camp?

NO!  Please make sure you send lunch or snacks (depending on which camp they are attending) as well as any sport drinks and / or water.  Some of the camps are long, please make sure you send a NUTRITIOUS lunch or snack to maintain your player's stamina and energy.

DO NOT COUNT ON THE VENDING MACHINES OR SNACK BARS TO BE OPEN AT ANY RINK.

N.A.H.S. Strongly discourages any parents from sending money with the player's. N.A.H.S. will not be held responsible for any mishaps or losses.

My Child has a specific and severe allergy. What do you suggest?

Please call / email us with the information and include these considerations on your enrollment form. We will discuss the situation with you and help you in any way we can. Please do not wait until the beginning of the camp week to inform us of any special needs or considerations. Sometimes special situations require us to notify all the families in advance of another player's allergy  and the first day of camp is not enough notice.
